BMV23M001

The BMV23M001 is a sound detector module. It detects sounds via a microphone and amplifies the sound signal through the operational amplifier. Subsequently, it compares the amplified sound signal with the default threshold value. If the signal exceeds the threshold, it is determined as sound detected.

DESCRIPTION

What sets the product apart from typical sound sensors is its integrated MCU, the HT66F2030. The MCU includes a 12-bit ADC (Analog-to-Digital Converter) which coverts the sound signal into values ranging from 0 to 4095. This capability allows for the detection of even subtle sound variations.
Additionally, the development board can read the converted ADC values through the I2C interface for further applications.

The amplification of sound signals is adjustable. The “Sound Gain” on the module is a variable resistor with a value of 100kΩ. You can use a cross-head screwdriver to adjust the resistance. Turning the resistor clockwise increases its resistance, resulting in a higher amplification. This enhancement in sensitivity makes it easier to detect sounds.

There are two 5-pin headers on the product: BMCOM and audio output interface. The BMCOM can be directly connected to a BMduino development board, such as BM53A367A. The BMCOM includes an I2C interface and a STA pin. It determines whether sound is detected through the STA pin, and outputs low level once sound is detected; otherwise, it outputs high level.

The audio output interface includes Gate, ENV and Audio pins.
Gate: similar to the STA pin, it is also used to determine whether sound detected. It outputs low level when no sound is detected and high level when sound is detected, which is opposite to the STA pin. You can choose either the Gate or STA pin to output the status for your application.

ENV: ENV pin is the envelope of the amplified sound signal. It can be connected to the analog input pin on the development board and converted using the ADC of the development board, without the I2C interface. In further applications, the ADC values from the envelope can be used to adjust lamp brightness and color in real-time.

Audio: the sound signal detected by the microphone is directly amplified and output. When adjusting the variable resistor (Sound Gain), the signal level of the Audio pin is simultaneously adjusted. There are various applications. For example, audio signals can be amplified and played by external circuit through the audio amplifier. The audio signal can also be encoded and stored.

The power pins (VDD, GND) of the BMCOM and audio output interface are interconnected. You only need to supply power to one of them.

The BMV23M001 finds application in voice control area. Different actions can be triggered based on varying sound intensities by utilizing the converted ADC values.
