BM32S2031-1
DESCRIPTION

The BM32S2031-1 is the second-generation proximity sensing module. Compared with the ex-generation, it removes the LED indicator to make itself smaller. Its specifications are the same as the ex-generation and it can be compatible with the previous one.

Proximity is determined by detecting changes in reflection. The BM32S2031-1 integrates active infrared emission, reception, and optical mechanisms. It includes a long sensing distance (up to 100cm) and automatic learning of sensing distance.

The BM32S2031-1 provides two operation modes:
I/O mode: the output pin changes from high to low when the module detects an object. The default detection distance is 85cm, and users can easily change the sensing distance.
UART mode: the external MCU can read and write parameters through the UART interface and quickly adjust module characteristics. The I/O mode suffices for general usage cases.

HOW TO LEARN THE SENSING DISTANCE

The default sensing distance of this module is 85cm, and the distance is adjustable.

Steps for learning the distance in I/O mode:

  1. To change the infrared detection position, place something, such as a sheet of paper, above the infrared sensor.
For example, if you want to change the distance to 50cm, place something above the infrared sensor from a height of 50cm.
  2. Turn on the power and set the pin 4 (IN) to low in 0.5 second.
  3. Release the pin 4 (IN).
  4. If the distance learning is completed, the pin 3 (OUT) turns low.
You can measure the signal level to make sure whether the learning is successful or add an LED to see the learning result more clearly.
WIRING

Because the BM32S2031-1 does not include an LED indicator, you can add one to see the detection result more clearly. Please refer to the below picture to find how we add an LED indicator.

PRODUCT FAQs

Question 1
Do environmental lights interfere with the module?

Answer
According to our tests, halogen lamps, infrared remote controls, and sunlight do not cause false triggers.

Test environments
Halogen lamps, infrared remote controls: indoor incandescent lamp environment
Sunlight: outdoors during daytime

Question 2
What is the difference between I/O and UART modes?

Answer
In I/O mode, the proximity status is determined by the I/O output pin.
If you want to read parameters or adjust parameters, you need to use the UART mode.
In UART mode, you can read proximity status as well.
